I wrote this piece and recorded it in September 2017, after being inspired to add my ownpersonal compositional touch to my album of new music for trumpet by women composers. “As I Am” has a sweet sort of longing and pleading, to be recognized and noticed, yet is also accompanied by a frantic desperation, shown through repeating phrases in a minor key that expand and change slightly as
the piece develops.
